Friday night: dinner with my Wesley and lots of laughter...and the question of whether or not, after years pass, fireworks still exist. After breakups, divorces, and train wrecks, do we become too cynical to even believe in fireworks in regards to relationships?
As we were contemplating this question, our appetizer arrived...shrimp au gratin. After having a bite of this wickedly delicious fare, shrimp in an evilly rich white cheese sauce, we looked at each other and said in unison, "Now that's fireworks!!!"
Then we collapsed into giggles and feebly attempted to stifle them in order to keep our behavior in a public place at something resembling a modicum of decorum.
I don't hide my cynicism, nor do I hide behind it. It serves me well, as do the lessons I've learned through life experience. I don't worry that those supposed "fireworks" may be precluded by it, though; I'm more about comfortable and easy. One thing I remember about being married was that when various people would ask the inevitable question, "How's married life?" I would respond, "It's low-key...and I love it." When that answer changed to, "Enjoy being alone while you can," I knew the dynamic had shifted past my comfort level.
I'm not worried about being single. I have a handful of close and amazing friends...and I have plenty of "me" time to sing loudly without worry of being overheard, time to do my coursework and collapse from the exhaustion induced by working full-time and having been in school part-time since God was a boy, and dance around naked with no one to give me strange looks--well, with the exception of my dog, but she's used to me by now.
The fireworks will find me eventually...along with understanding and the strength to deal with my complicated, moody, strong personality. But for now, I'm taking George Carlin's advice.
Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things.
List five reasons (at least) why you are awesome.

1. Because I am hell bent on subverting the dominant paradigm.
2. Because I am patient...at least when it comes to the important stuff.
3. Because I will move heaven and earth for the people I love.
4. Because I do not say "irregardless."
5. Because I make no apologies for who I am.
If you could get everyone in the world to change their behavior in one way, what would you have them do differently?

That's easy. I'd have them get their heads outta their arses.
What's the most memorable crush you have had?

That time I got my finger slammed in a car door that proceeded to not only latch, but lock, was pretty damn memorable.
